This year Thanksgiving is great! We went to my parent's house for our Thanksgiving day festivities. I really love getting together with my family, being a relative newcomer to a large family, it's so much FUN. (In fact, it's so fun, holidays with my family was one of the big reasons I finally convinced Daddy to relax on his 2-kids rule...) We had the traditional spread: Smoked Turkey, Fried Turkey breast (for me!), mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, broccoli and cheese casserole, dressing, rolls, and pumpkin and cherry pie. YUM. I am SO thankful that I've hit my second trimester and I can enjoy all this great food! I brought sweet potato and butternut squash casserole (
This recipe, but I added a butternut squash to the mix and increased the seasonings just a pinch). It was very yummy, so yummy in fact that we were too busy eating to take any pictures! We played cards for the rest of the evening, in between football and more food. I have to say that Jenny (my sis) and I beat everyone else at my favorite card game, Hands and Feet. Granny Verna and Taylor killed everyone at Peanuts (I hadn't heard of it either, think speed group solitaire) (wait, should it be called group-itaire?). Since I hardly ever get to play cards, it really floated my boat to just play all night.
Today we had to get back home to take care of the animals so we're having our own family Thanksgiving today. I'm making:
- Green Bean Casserole (yes, the one from the back of the French Fried Onions package)
- Grampa's corn
- Stuffing
- Cranberry "sauce" (the stuff from the can - Daddy's favorite... blech)
- Homemade crescent rolls (with a little help from
June, I think everyone should have a June)
- Sweet potato Pie (
This recipe, but instead of pumpkin, a can of sweet potatoes mashed up)
- Peanut Butter Pie
And it's just the THREE of us! We'll be well fed, that's for sure!
And then we have another Thanksgiving on Sunday with Daddy's family, and they know how to eat as well!
Glad to hear you had a good Thanksgiving and that you're feeling well as far as nausea is concerned. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Peanuts (the game)! We have GNI (girls night in) here and play it all the time. Except, we call it D'poople (I know, it's a loooong story). Sooo fun though!!! :)
