This is R's nativity set. It isn't hard, ceramic, glass, etc, although I'm sure she could find a way to break it if she tried. But she's allowed to play with it, arrange them how she wants. This was her latest arrangement, something I found touching. All of the figures are gathered around baby Jesus, singing (according to R). I'm not sure what they sing, probably a medley of 'Jesus Loves Me,' 'ABCs' and 'Jingle Bells,' but the innocence of her play brought tears to my eyes. I think we all need to stop the Christmas hustle and bustle for a little bit and gather around to worship our Lord and King. Though perhaps we might find something different to sing than 'ABCs' and 'Jingle Bells.'
Although, from my sweet little girl, I think God would find them just as pleasing as our complicated array of Christmas songs. I think it's fitting what those songs would represent from her young life: ABC's - worshiping God with what we know and what we are learning; and Jingle Bells - worshiping God through all of our holiday traditions, even if they weren't designed to be Christ-centered.
The innocence and profound wisdom children (my child in particular) possess will never cease to amaze me.
