Apple Dumplings
2 Granny Smith Apples
2 cans crescent rolls
2 sticks of butter
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
cinnamon
1 small can of Mountain Dew (or about 1/3 cup sugar mixed with 1/2 cup water)
Peel and core the apples. Cut apples into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9x13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and *barely stir*. Add vanilla, *barely stir* again and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew (or sugar water mixture, heated) around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
These are not good for you at all, but they are SO tasty. If you want step-by-step directions with pictures (which are so good, you can gain weight just looking at them), check out Pioneer Woman's site - Apple Dumplings
While you're there, check out some of her other recipes, notably her pan fried pork chops (in the "Main Courses" section, under "Pork") and then, if you don't know how, her Biscuits and Gravy recipe (in the "Breakfast" section) so you can make the most to-die-for gravy to go with those ridiculously easy and tasty pork chops. My husband is seriously thinking about adding this woman to our will (ok, maybe not) because we've been eating VERY well around here...

I just heard about The Pioneer Woman last week and love her new cookbook. I really like her ideas and recipes. I think I might have to buy this cookbook for me and all the women in my family. :)
