Well, my sad idealistic world of web-dom has also come crashing down. I currently have 2 Picasa Web Albums to share my pictures and scrapbook pages with friends and family. I highly recommend Picasa as a photo editing/organizing tool. It's free, it's google, love it. And their web album application is super easy to use, just choose your pictures, upload, bam. Ready for your friends to view. But, sadly, Picasa Web Albums are totally public. "No Big Deal," my idealistic self thought, "no one cares about pictures of me and my family, nothing perverted is on here, no one but my friends and family want to see these." Some pervert favorited my pictures and made comments about my little girl. Trust me, if I had to choose between shooting the dog that killed my chickens, or shooting the pervert that was looking at pictures of my little girl, there would be no contest. The dog would still be running free. So, I have taken down all pictures from that site and tried to research other ways to allow my friends and family to see them 1) without having to have everyone create an account on some random website and 2) letting those people cautiously forward the pictures to other friends that might be interested (despite all this, I do still trust them to use good judgement in who they forward them to). So this is what I've come up with. When I have new pictures to post, I will have a password protected blog posting. You will simply click on the link and a box will appear to put in a password. Those of you that would like to see my pictures, please just leave a comment with your email (I will delete your email from the comments when I get it, if you'd like) and I'll send the password to you. It will always be the same password. This will just have a link to my unlisted photo albums. The albums themselves are not locked, but they are just not accessible to anyone that doesn't have the exact, randomly-generated web address. Please, please, please get the password from me if you want to see pictures of us.
I WANT to share pictures with all of you. But I'm trying to protect my family from crazies and perverts. I will still post pictures here, but as I know this is a "public" place, I'm particular about which ones I post.
I want you guys to see pictures of R in the pool in her first little 2-piece swim suit, but you'll have to get the password from me to see anything besides her little face.
If you want more information about how to safely post pictures in Picasa (or more information about Picasa, which is still the best solution out there, in my opinion), or how to add password protected blog postings to your blog, please let me know. I've done lots of research and can try to help you out.
It makes me sick that there are such crazies and perverts out there, and every time I think about it, I get sick to my stomach, but I think this will be a good solution so my dear friends and family that want to keep up with us, can.
OH.MY.GOSH! I can't believe that! How sickning! I think about that all the time with our blog too... and about leaving it public or making it private. However, I too have always thought "who would be interested in our family or pictures?" It is amazing how quickly people that you don't know gain access to your life. Oh, how sad. My e-mail address is in the sidebar of our blog. Please add me so I can see pictures of that adorable little girl!!! :)
ReplyDeletethis is awful! I'm so sorry to hear it has happened.
