Well, our first major, emotional farm set-back occured this morning. While we were out getting allergy testing (and I am now a certified Food Service Operator), we came home to a chicken massacre. We lost 15 chickens, including Ariel, Fiona, and Minnie Pearl. Riley still hasn't grasped the loss yet, saying that Ariel will be up "next time." My heart was broken. The culprit? A little mutt-dog that wanted to play with the "chew toys." So we buried the 15 chickens, found 7 more that were straggling in from who-knows-where (we only had 6 after the "incident") and have 7 that are still MIA. **Update** 2 Chickens have been found alive in the next door pasture. We also found the mutt-dog and informed the owner that any injury (or more) to the dog was no longer my problem. But, the dog got ahold of another chicken that tried to come home. So 16 dead, 15 home, 4 MIA
Note: This entry didn't post for some reason, but the incident occured on Thursday. Dog was found on Friday.
Another Update: Another Chicken found dead: 17 dead, 15 alive, 3 MIA
Oh, how sad! I'm sorry.
