Onions, Grapes, and Peas, Oh My!
We have officially planted stuff in the ground. Does that make us a farm yet? Daddy doesn't think we're a farm until we harvest, but it sure seems like a lot of work to get there and not be called farming. Anyways, I got about 1/4 of the onions planted yesterday, and I'll do the rest today. I also planted 4 grape vines yesterday. They're more for bug control than for grapes, but we'll take grapes if we can get them. Apparently, grape leaves are like the all-you-can-eat dessert buffet and all the nasty bugs flock to them instead of your crops (if you have them planted close together). So, since they were on clearance at Lowe's, I picked up 2 black seedless and 2 purple seedless. I'm also going to start my peas today. They go straight in the ground. I'm nervous because they seem so tender, but they are pretty cold hardy, so the cold snap later this week shouldn't bother them too much. I've only done cool season crops a couple of times, so this year should be a good learning experience for cool season crops on a large scale. So, that's the farm update. Hope you're having a great week!
