Well, the chicken coop is almost finished. We have successfully wired almost the entire inside of the coop, hoping to prevent critters from digging under or climbing up through the ceiling beams. We've put up a wall in front, hung up a door weighted down the wire on the floor with blocks and filled it with fresh-cut grass. We've also reinforced the corners with corregated metal siding. All we need to do now is put a latch on the door so we can move the chickens out there. Then we will need to finish the nesting boxes and roosts and add "chickie-doors" for them to go in and out throughout the day. But all those things aren't as vital, so we should be able to put the chickens out there as soon as the rain stops! I'm also hoping that we can run electric out there this summer, but that project might be postponed a while depending on how the crops go.
Speaking of crops, we have plenty of onions coming up, a few radishes (a lot of them blew away during the windy days of the wildfires), peas are starting to come up and potatoes are sprouting. So everything is going pretty well for farm-newbies! I'm teaching a workshop this weekend at the Moore Community garden (link is at the left in my blog list) about Lasagna Gardening. should be a lot of fun. Except the printer is broken, so I can't print out my handouts. Grr. We'll get it figured out. Lots to do this week! Hope you're having a great week!

ReplyDeleteYAY OU!
I loved it there. And the people in OK? The best! They are so friendly that it caught me off-guard at first. I meant, people I don't know... saying Hi... in a mall?
It was easy to adjust.
Happy times...
