Daddy and I were just talking today about the fact that R is very language-inclined. Which is strange, because neither of us are very good in language... at all. Daddy's very good at athletics, math, and engineering type things (read: organization). I'm very good with some math, science, and creativity (read: disorganization). R, bless her little heart, doesn't really like numbers. We're finally getting her to say the numbers 14-18 when counting to twenty. Apparently, it sounds better to just go from 13 to 19. But she's learning. She likes being active, but I wouldn't say she's particularly gifted in that area, but we are happy she enjoys it. We'll let you know about the science later. But language. Wow. Let's just say, she started like the normal kids with: Dada, ki-ee, ba-pa (diaper), mama (what, your kids didn't put mama behind diaper?). Then, she discovered that when she said a word, she got what she wanted. And the little language part of her brain just exploded. She is now very verbal, talks in pretty complicated sentences and has good grammar in my opinion. Her only weakness right now is the irregular past-tense verbs (swim-swam, take-took, etc). So, Daddy and I were discussing our options for introducing a new language to her. All the studies show that it's best to introduce a new language before the age of 5 for it to really stick, and R enjoys and thrives with that stuff, so we wanted to find something that will work for her on her age level (and nothing against Dora, but I can't stand her, so we probably won't be going that route). Daddy wants her to learn Chinese, I'm not sure, I'd prefer Spanish (or italian so we can take her to Italy with us and she can speak for us... :) ). We hadn't actually gotten as far as to find something, but tonight during our nighttime prayers i got confirmation that we needed to get on it. This is how our prayer went, Ri repeats after me:
Me: Dear God
R: Dear God
Me: Thank you for our day
R: Thank you for our day
Me: Thank you for our church
R: Thank you for our church
Me: Thank you for our teachers
R: Thank you for our teachers
Me: We like learning more about You
R : We like learning more about You
Me: Please help us sleep good* tonight (I know, know, KNOW it's wrong, but she gets confused about good-well and water-well, so I did it anyways)
R: Please help us sleep well tonight (Daddy and I sneak a glance at each other)
Me: And have a good day tomorrow
R: And have a good day tomorrow
Me: In Jesus Name
R: In Jesus Name
Me: Amen
R: Amen
Daddy: Amen (Yes, everyone MUST say amen. It's a rule)
See what I mean??? She didn't just blindly say exactly what I said. Which is good, which means she's kinda understanding and taking in what she is praying. But goodness sakes. Correcting my grammar? In front of GOD? Really? I'm in SO much trouble...
I saw this post earlier, didn't comment.... came back to look at background and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRiley is so cute also. It is amazing what they retain, huh? :)
Yup, you're in trouble. You've been in trouble for over 3 years, you just didn't know it until now... May God bless you richly as you raise Riley to be the person He wants her to be. It's a tough job, but I think God knew what He was doing when He chose you and Sam for the task.
