Well, Sydney (our 15 week old puppy) went in to the vet on Monday, and she has a significant heart murmur. So we took her in for an Echocardiogram and ECG today. We won't know the official results until tomorrow, but it appears as though two of her heart valves are just abnormally big, a condition (if I remember correctly) that is called Pulmonary stenosis. No surgery and shouldn't affect her lifespan too much unless she get's overheated. Praise GOD! We have been praying hard for her to not have to have surgery and to not have anything that was going to shorten her life. We are SO blessed. Nothing official, as the test info has to be sent off to a veterinary cardiologist, but it was very obvious to the doctor administering the Echo, and she's 90% sure that's what is causing her murmur. Yay for us and yay for Sydney!
I ordered my chicks today! Daddy and I have been debating on whether or not to get chickens this year or next year, and we decided that we could handle it this year. And we have been able to find free lumber and cheap materials to construct our roost and nesting boxes, so we are well on our way to chicken-dome. I want the chickens to free range, which poses all kinds of problems, but also keeps things relatively simple, except for one major factor. There aren't many people who truly free-range their chickens, and most certainly not on a larger scale (more than 5 or 6). So finding information to work out our issues has been difficult, but we have a pretty good plan for our chickens and I'm excited to get them. They'll be delivered April 6th or 7th, just in time for Easter! We have an Easter get together with my step-mom's family and I've debated on whether or not to bring the little buggers to show the kids, but I think it will just complicate things. We're getting 23 girls and 2 boys. What a bunch! I also debated on the rooster thing, but roosters are just too handy. They keep the girls safe by watching the skies and alerting the girls, they also fend off potential predators, and keep the girls busy. It should be plenty of fun. I'm sure we'll have our fair share of disasters, but I'm so excited to finally be able to grow our own meat! Well, for now it's just eggs, but we can raise more (another great reason to have roosters) and get some meat chickens. I'm so excited! I'll post pictures once they get here, and pictures of their accomodations. So fun!
