It's been a while and here's why...

So, I haven't updated this in forever.  We've gotten busy with school, then a little vacation to Branson, then reworking the parts of school that weren't working, then...

Yes, we have another little peanut on the way, due to arrive June 15th.  So between the morning sickness and nausea, then the voracious appetite that I have lately acquired, there's not been much time to write.  Oh and that whole, homeschooling mom of two thing.  Yeah, I spend a lot of time on that too.
We're also taking huge steps in making our farm more self-sufficient.  It's a large project that neither Sam nor I know much about, but we know that in order to get this farm from being just a hobby that bleeds money to a true farm, we have to take some risks and challenges.  So, we are going to attempt to grow our own forage crops for the goats and chickens.  And we've been building 4'x16' raised garden beds, 7 will be completed by spring.  We've tried it the more traditional ways, but the drought, weeds, vermin, winds, etc don't seem to make the odds in our favor.  So we're taking an advantage and hoping for a fabulous crop this year to feed our family through the winter.  Or at least part-way through the winter.  We have two pigs in the freezer, and we're getting ready to put 1/4 of a cow in there as well.  So we're pretty good in the meat dept.  We also have plenty of chicken, they're just not in the freezer.... yet.
So, all in all, in true Packard fashion, we're pushing ourselves even further.  This will be a year for the books, I hope.  We're praying for decent spring rains to help our forage crops grow, healthy baby goats in April, a healthy baby this summer, and plenty of veggies to keep our tummies full in the late summer.

I hope that your 2012 has gotten off to a fabulous start!
